The National Youth Science Forum was the
experience of a lifetime.
It is not every day that one is able to mix with students of similar aspirations,
motivations and passions for life.
I conducted experiments, one where I took the gene of a jellyfish that gives
it its fluorescence, and inserted it into a bacterium. This bacterium was
then able to glow in the presence of UV light.
I was also given the opportunity to debate the controversial topics of our
century – global warming and nuclear power – with leading scientists.
I believe the best feature that the NYSF offered, was the chance to think,
act and learn independently of my comfort zone.
Retuning to Newcastle, I can tell I have changed through this journey and
discovered a new found confidence.
The NYSF was an experience that changed my outlook for the future, and I hope
it will continue to do so for other generations.
